I stood at the front window of our big family house, watching my parents' car disappear down the long driveway. The sun was just starting to rise, painting the sky in soft pinks and oranges. It was dawn, and they were leaving for six whole months.
Dad had gotten this amazing chance to work on a research project in Switzerland, some restricted facility high in the mountains. Mom was going with him to help out.
It sounded exciting, but I couldn't go. The place was too professional and too far from everything I needed for college. I was twenty now, old enough to stay home alone, but they didn't want to risk it.
Instead, Dad had called his three old friends, his step-brothers from way back. They were like uncles to me, but I hadn't seen them since I was a little kid.
Their names were Jungkook, Taehyung, and Jimin.
Dad said they were the most trusted people he knew, and they'd move in to keep an eye on me and take care of the house and supervise me.
I rolled my eyes at the thought. Who gonna tell him that I wasn't a baby anymoreโฆbut okay, if it made them feel better.
The house felt empty already without Mom and Dad's chatter. I wandered back to the kitchen, poured myself some coffee, and tried to shake off the weird knot in my stomach.
Six months. What was I supposed to do with three grown men crashing here?
I pictured them as I remembered...fuzzy memories of tall guys with beards and loud laughs from family barbecues years ago. They probably still saw me as that awkward girl with pigtails.
An hour passed. I was scrolling on my phone when I heard the low rumble of an engine outside. Peeking through the curtains, I saw a heavy black SUV pull up to the front. It looked tough, like something from a movie. The doors opened, and out stepped the first one.
Jungkook. He was nothing like I remembered. Rugged, with messy dark hair and a strong build that filled out his plain t-shirt. His sleeves were rolled up, showing off tattoos snaking down his arms...black ink that looked both cool and a little scary. He grabbed a duffel bag from the back like it weighed nothing, slinging it over his shoulder. As he turned toward the house, his eyes met mine through the window. Those were dark and intense. He gave me a look that said he already knew I'd be trouble. My heart skipped a beat.
Whoa...he wasn't some old uncle figure anyway!
The next door opened, and Taehyung climbed out. He was tall...really very tall, like he towered over the car. His face was sharp, with those double lidded eyes that scanned everything...the house, the yard, and then me standing there. It was cold, like he was sizing up a problem to solve. There was no smilin his face, just this quiet intensity that made the air feel heavier. He carried a sleek laptop bag, all professional.
Last came Jimin. He shut the door with a soft click and stretched a bit, like the drive hadn't bothered him at all. His blonde hair that fell just right, and a face that was...beautiful. Soft features, but there was something playful in how he moved. He smiled as he walked up the steps, but when his eyes landed on me, they lingered on my lips for a second too long.
"You've grown up, haven't you?" he said, his voice smooth and warm. It hit me like a warm breeze, making my cheeks heat up.
I opened the door before they could knock. "Hi..." I said, trying to sound casual. "Come on in."
Jungkook nodded, stepping inside first. "Y/n..." he said, his voice deep and rough. "Long time..." He set his bag down in the entryway with a thud.
Taehyung followed, his height making the ceiling feel lower. He glanced around the foyer, taking it all in. "The place looks good," he said flatly, like he was already making notes. His eyes flicked back to me, appraising.
Jimin brought up the rear, closing the door behind him. "It's nice to see you again," he added, that smile still playing on his lips. Up close, he was even prettier, with a soft glow to his skin. But there was an edge to it, like he knew exactly how charming he was.
I led them to the living room, where Mom had left snacks out...the fruit, coffee, some pastries. "Mom dad said to make yourselves at home," I told them, gesturing to the couches. "They left early."
We sat down, and it got awkward fast. These weren't the fuzzy uncles from my childhood. They were men now...strong, grown-up, and filling the space in ways that made me shift in my seat.
Jungkook leaned back, arms crossed, tattoos peeking out. Taehyung sat straight, like he was in a meeting. Jimin lounged a bit, but his gaze kept coming back to me.
"So, what's the plan?" I asked, breaking the silence. "Dad mentioned you'd... supervise." I tried not to sound annoyed.
Jungkook chuckled, low and gravelly. "Yeah...your dad wants us to keep things running smooth. I'll handle the physical stuff like fixing things around the house, making sure you're active. Gym sessions, morning runs...can't have you sitting around all day."
I raised an eyebrow. "Runs? I don't run."
"You will now," he said, that troublemaker look back in his eyes.
Taehyung cleared his throat. "I'll take care of the intellectual side. Check your college work, help with studies if needed. Dinners will be structured...good meals, no junk. Focus on progress." His voice was even, but firm. Like he wouldn't take no for an answer.
Jimin leaned forward, elbows on his knees. "And I'll handle the social part. Who you're talking to on your phone, friends coming over. Make sure it's all safe and fun." His smile widened, but his eyes were serious. "We don't want any drama...."
I blinked. "Wait, you're monitoring my phone?"
"Not spying," Jimin said quickly. "Just guiding...your parents trust us."
It sounded strict, like they were turning the house into some kind of boot camp. But there was some tension in the air, maybe.
The way Jungkook's gaze lingered on my legs when I crossed them. Taehyung's quiet watchfulness. Jimin's easy charm that felt a little too personal.
"Okay," I said slowly. "As long as we all get along."
They nodded, and we spent the next hour unpacking basics. Jungkook hauled boxes to the guest rooms upstairs. Mom and Dad's old offices turned into bedrooms for them. Taehyung set up his laptop in the study, already pulling out papers. Jimin helped me clear space in the kitchen, chatting lightly about the drive.
By afternoon, the house felt different. Their presence wereeverywhere, boots by the door, bags in the hall. I retreated to my room to catch my breath.
This was going to be weird.
Dinner was the first test. Taehyung took charge, like he said. He cooked some simple pasta with veggies, nothing fancy but healthy.
We sat at the big dining table, Mom always used for family meals. Jungkook ate fast, like he was used to it. Jimin made jokes to lighten things up. Taehyung watched me pick at my food.
"Eat up," he said, his voice low. "You need energy for tomorrow."
I nodded, feeling his eyes on me. After, I cleared the plates, and that's when it happened with Jungkook. The hallway to the kitchen was narrow, lined with old family photos. I turned a corner too quick, and he was there, coming from the other way with a stack of dishes.
Our arms brushed. Just a second, but his skin was rough, calloused from whatever work he did. It sent a spark through me, like static but warmer. Fire in my veins. I froze, looking up at him. He paused too, close enough I could see the ink on his forearm up close.
"Sorry," he muttered, voice gruff. But he didn't move right away. His eyes met mine, dark and unreadable. Then he stepped aside, letting me pass. My heart pounded as I walked away, that touch lingering like a promise of more.
Later that evening, I was in the living room, flipping through a textbook for college. Taehyung wandered in, carrying a book of his own, something thick about history. "Need help?" he asked, standing by the couch.
"Uh, maybe," I said. "This chapter's confusing."
He sat down too close, his long legs stretching out. The couch dipped under his weight, and suddenly he was right there, his shoulder almost touching mine.
He leaned over to look at my page, and his height made everything feel smaller. I was trapped in that space between him and the armrest.
His scent was so clean, like soap and books...filled the air.
"Here," he said, pointing to a line. His finger brushed the paper near my hand. He explained it slowly, his voice steady, but he didn't pull back. I nodded, trying to focus, but all I could think was how small I felt next to him.
Protected, but also cornered.
When he finally straightened, I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.
"Thanks," I whispered.
He just nodded, those sharp eyes flicking over me once more before he left.
The day wasn't over yet. Jimin found me in the hallway later, as I was heading to bed. He was holding a small bottle, my perfume from the bathroom counter. "Is this yours?" he asked, smiling.
"Yeah," I said, stopping.
"Mind if I test it? Make sure it's not expired or something." He uncapped it, but instead of spraying the air, he leaned in, so close. His face near my neck, inhaling softly.
I went still, my pulse racing. His breath hitched...just a tiny sound, but I heard it. His breath was warm against my skin. He lingered there, longer than needed, eyes half-closed. Then he pulled back, capping the bottle.
"Smells good on you," he said, voice a little huskier. That smile again, but now it felt different. Charged.
"Goodnight, Y/n...."
I mumbled goodnight and hurried to my room, door clicking shut. Lying in bed, I stared at the ceiling. The house was quiet, but my mind raced.
Three men, all so different, all so close now.
Jungkook's rough touch. Taehyung's towering presence. Jimin's lingering scent check. It was just the first day, and already, things felt...intense.
Six months. How was I going to handle this?
The next morning came too soon. Jungkook was up first, banging around in the kitchen. I dragged myself downstairs in workout clothes, shorts and a tank top, since he insisted on that run.
He was there, sipping coffee, dressed in running gear that hugged his muscles. Tattoos visible on his arms again.
"Ready?" he asked, eyeing me.
"As I'll ever be."
We stepped outside, the cool air hitting my skin. He set a slow pace at first, letting me keep up. But as we jogged the path around the estate, he talked about fixing the fence later, about how the house needed work. His voice was easy, but every time our arms swung close, I remembered that brush in the hall.
By the time we got back, I was sweaty and out of breath. He clapped my shoulder firmly, but not rough. "Good start," he said. "We'll build from here."
Taehyung was in the study when I showered and changed. He called me in for a quick check on my assignments. Sitting across from his desk, I showed him my notes. He leaned forward, reading over them.
Again, too close...his knee almost touching mine under the table.
"This part needs more detail," he said, his long fingers tapping the page. I felt pinned by his gaze, like he saw right through me.
After lunch, Jimin took my phone casually. "Just a quick look," he said, scrolling through contacts. "Whoโs this?" He pointed to a friend's name, but his thumb brushed my hand as he handed it back.
The touch was soft, but it lingered.
The day blurred like small moments building. A shared laugh with Jimin over a movie. Taehyung's quiet approval on my homework. Jungkook spotting me during a simple gym stretch in the home gym, his hands steady on my back for balance.
Each one sparked something. Not big...just embers. Slow, warming the edges of my thoughts.
By night, as I lay in bed again, the house creaked with their presence. Steps in the hall, low voices from downstairs.
I wondered what tomorrow would bring. More structure, more closeness. More of those accidental touches that didn't feel accidental at all.
This was only the beginning...I know it.
โTO BE CONTINUED!
